What Are Ephelides Croxton?
Ephelides are small, flat, pigmented spots that commonly develop in childhood and are particularly noticeable in people with fair skin.
They are associated with genetic factors and exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
Common characteristics include:
- Small, flat, tan or light-brown spots
- Appearance on sun-exposed areas
- Increased visibility during sunnier months
- Fading during periods of reduced sun exposure
- Multiple freckles appearing across the same area of skin
Unlike some other forms of pigmentation, ephelides often become less noticeable with age.
Although freckles are generally harmless, not every pigmented mark is an ephelis.
